Jake Butt

The head of the 2017 Draft Class is none other than fifth rounder Jake Butt. Butt sustained a year-long ACL injury in the Orange Bowl against the Florida State Seminoles. Before the injury, Butt showed enough burst to be a reliable target on the Denver Broncos. One play from today’s action displays an underrated aspect of Butt’s game.

Butt’s capable to sneak away from defenders with running after the catch ability. Case Keenum threw short to Jake Butt in the red zone and Butt moved rather quickly showing his knee is fully healthy. This type of play makes a Denver Broncos offense scary factoring in the new toys of Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton.

The chances of Butt to receive throws from Keenum will continue to rise. The defense will plan to stop Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Sutton. Butt is capable of spreading out wide as a weapon for Keenum. Yet, one area of improvement is blocking. Due to Butt being a film and gym rat, something I don’t remember a Denver Broncos tight end being, it is not out of the realm of possibility he can become a durable blocker.

All told, Butt is a player ready to make an impact on day one barring a significant injury.
