Denver Broncos rookie linebacker Josey Jewell finally made his training camp debut after dealing with an injury and practiced on a limited basis…

The Denver Broncos’ rookie class of 2018 has already proven to be loaded with instant impact, at least as far as training camp practices are concerned.

One player the team is being patient with, however, is rookie linebacker Josey Jewell, a fourth-round pick out of Iowa whose debut has been highly anticipated.

Jewell returned to practice after dealing with a hamstring injury for the first five days of camp and did some individual drills as well as some 7-on-7 work.

The team and fans alike were very happy to have him back on the field.

Because he was just getting his feet wet, there’s really not much to report from Jewell’s first day at practice. Things will start ramping up for him in the coming days, but he said he is glad to be back out on the field with his teammates.

He was pretty upset about having to just watch the first few days of practice.

"“I was pretty mad,” Jewell said, “but you have to find a positive on any negative like that. I tried to learn a lot off the field, watching the older guys, watching other guys make mistakes and do it right. I was just really trying to really focus on that. You can learn a lot of different things on an off-the-field day.”Josey Jewell (quotes via Broncos PR)"

The Broncos are confident in what Jewell brings to the table.

Throughout the course of OTAs, he was mixing in with the first-team defense (according to reports) and showing off his coverage skills.

Jewell was a great coverage at Iowa from the linebacker position despite not having the greatest athletic traits.

His film study, instincts, and ability to quickly react to the quarterback all helped make him one of the toughest linebackers in the country when it came to pass coverage. Jewell picked off six passes in his four seasons at Iowa and had some game-altering pass breakups.

The Broncos would certainly love to be able to add a playmaker like that into their defense as the team has struggled to cover running backs and tight ends now for what feels like an eternity.

Jewell will get the chance to show what he can do in the coming weeks and gives the Broncos a pretty unique backup field general when it comes to understanding and running the defense as well as being able to diagnose what the other team is doing.

That kind of player will show very well in preseason action where teams are looking to put players in successful situations offensively with basic concepts.

Jewell is likely to start his Broncos career as the primary backup at inside linebacker, but he will probably be taking on a lot of snaps in his rookie season.
