Paxton Lynch

Paxton Lynch’s third NFL training camp had gotten off to a rough start according to onlookers but he showed signs of progression on day four and on day five, he put together a really nice day of practice.

It wasn’t perfect, by any means, but there were a couple of throws Lynch made throughout practice that were absolutely on the money including the play of the day where he threw a pass to wide receiver Tim Patrick deep down the right sideline.

Patrick made an adjustment to tight coverage, and the ball was thrown perfectly in front of him to his outside shoulder and great coverage by the defensive back was still no match for a perfect throw and a great catch.

That was a highlight for Lynch, but he also put together a nice drive in 11-on-11 where he connected with rookie wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton for a big gain, followed by another on-target throw to tight end Matt LaCosse and a touchdown to Austin Traylor.

Another highlight for Lynch, at least from my perspective, was a play in which he didn’t actually complete a pass.

Lynch rolled out to his right on a play and was looking for a receiver running a shallow cross. The receiver was well covered but Lynch didn’t necessarily have space to run with the ball. He directed the receiver to run deep downfield because there was no safety or corner coverage over the top.

The receiver took off running downfield and Lynch put the ball out in front of him, giving him the chance to separate.

The ball fell incomplete, but I couldn’t help but think that was the first time I’d seen Lynch instinctively do something like that as opposed to looking for his first read and then taking off running.

It was a good day for Lynch and all of the quarterbacks had some nice moments in general.
