Super Bowl 33 Champion Denver Broncos: Where are they now?
By Andrew Wade
Steve Atwater
Hard-hitting safety Steve Atwater was the linchpin of the Denver secondary for 10 his 11 NFL seasons.
The first rounder out of the University of Arkansas was an instant starter and only missed five games total in his Denver career. During the 1990’s Atwater was looked at as one of the best safeties in the game.
During this time, he racked up eight Pro-Bowl selections, three All-Pro selections, and two Super Bowl wins including the Super Bowl 33 victory over the Falcons.
He racked up an impressive 1,038 tackles and 24 interceptions which are third and ninth all-time in Denver Broncos team history.
His dominance at the safety position led to his placement on the NFL 1990’s All-Decade Team, an induction into Denver’s Ring of Fame, and inclusion on Denver’s 50th Anniversary Team.
Despite all of this, Atwater is still waiting on his call for the NFL Hall of Fame.
Today, Atwater’s time is still focused on the Denver Broncos. He currently serves the Denver Broncos as a fan development manager, and he can often be heard on Orange & Blue 760 radio station regularly.
