The starters

The starting group when training camp opens could be pretty different than the first game of the regular season. With that said, how will the basic starting lineup — including a fullback — look when the team releases its first depth chart of the season?

Here’s a prediction:

QB: Case Keenum
RB: Devontae Booker/Royce Freeman
FB: Andy Janovich
TE: Jeff Heuerman
WR: Demaryius Thomas
WR: Emmanuel Sanders
LT: Garett Bolles
LG: Ron Leary
C: Matt Paradis
RG: Connor McGovern
RT: Jared Veldheer

On paper, this lineup presents a marked improvement over the group in 2017, with Keenum replacing Trevor Siemian as the starting quarterback and a much better configuration on the offensive line.

The Broncos needed to find a way to make the line a strength and this offseason, they did a good job of that by putting three of their best players — Bolles, Leary, and Paradis — all in a row and adding Veldheer at right tackle.

Now, if Connor McGovern works out, things will really be looking up.

This is a group I think we’ll see used when the Broncos want to plow teams in the running game, but Booker and Janovich are both capable as receivers as well.

Hopefully, offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave will find ways to exploit defenses through the air with this unit.

It’s possible that by the start of the season or sometime during the season, Royce Freeman is the starting running back and Jake Butt is the starting tight end with this group, leaving Booker and Heuerman to rotate in.
