New personnel groupings

In addition to having a couple of interesting new weapons defensively, the Broncos have the personnel to work with a variety of intriguing groupings.

Su’a Cravens alluded to this in a recent radio interview when he mentioned the Broncos will come at teams sometimes with four-safety looks.

This would mean that Cravens would be on the field at the same time as Will Parks, Justin Simmons, and Darian Stewart.

It could also be an indication of the Broncos’ prioritization of players in the defensive backfield.

This group is so deep, it will be hard for the Broncos to keep players off the field for any lengthy stretch of time.

If the Broncos play their cards right, they will have the chance to essentially match up throughout the game with specialty packages defensively designed for situational football.

The beauty of that also is, even when the Broncos organize a certain personnel grouping to defend against, say, an empty backfield look with four-wide, they could adjust just as easily if a team comes out with an old-school I-formation.

It will be interesting to see at Training Camp which players the Broncos keep on the field the majority of the time, though we can reasonably guess that Von Miller, Derek Wolfe, Chris Harris Jr., Bradley Roby, Brandon Marshall, and Justin Simmons will rarely leave the field.
