Denver Broncos: 5 Reasons the Broncos Are 2018’s Sleeper Team

3. Special Teams upgrades
The Broncos special teams unit in 2017 didn’t live up to the term of being special. One of the first moves the Broncos made following the end of their season was parting ways with first-year coordinator Brock Olivo.
Olivo’s energy was phenomenal, but the play of the unit didn’t translate into what he envisioned for them. The Broncos ranked 30th in the league as a special teams unit.
If It’s Broke, Fix It
The Solution? Denver brought in Tom McMahon who has over 11 years of NFL experience in to fix it.
McMahon received praise from former players like Pat McAfee and Adam Vinatieri who valued McMahon’s knowledge and experience.
The Broncos didn’t stop with McMahon. Denver added former AFC West rival Marquette King to punt the ball in the thin air at Broncos Stadium at Mile High.
With the addition of McMahon as Denver’s special teams coordinator, there is hope Brandon McManus finds consistency in the kicking game.
McManus went 24-of-32 in 2017 which served as a career low year. If McMahon can teach and utilize the strengths of King and McManus, the Broncos special teams unit will see immediate success in 2018.
