Shane Ray, age 25

After posting eight sacks as a reserve in 2016, it appeared Shane Ray was the heir to DeMarcus Ware in the Broncos’ defense.

Unfortunately, a wrist injury put him out much of the 2017 season and affected his play upon returning mid-season.

Ray’s wrist injury continued to affect him into the offseason, and he was required to undergo a fourth procedure to repair the damage that had been done roughly a year ago.

Ray’s injury situation forced the Broncos to decline his fifth-year option, raising questions about his future with the team.

The top priority at this point is getting Ray to a point where he can contribute at full strength, but no one knows when that will be.

Will Ray be ready for the start of the 2018 season? How long will it take him to rehab and get his strength back?

If Ray is at full health, he’s one of the best pass rushers on the team. That is a luxury the Broncos would love to have at any point this season. Hopefully, they do not rush him back.
