5. The left side of the OL
In the top three areas of weakness, we talked about the fact that the Broncos’ right guard and right tackle spots are major question marks heading into training camp.
With Connor McGovern competing with Billy Turner, Menelik Watson, and Max Garcia for the right guard spot and Jared Veldheer being held out of OTAs due to injury, there’s still just so much uncertainty there for a side of the ball that allowed 20 sacks in 2017.
With all of that said, the left side of the line including center Matt Paradis in the middle at center appears to be one of the team’s top areas of strength.
Garett Bolles had some struggles in his rookie season, but was mostly good and can hopefully clean up his penalty issues in year two.
Ron Leary was a great free agent pickup for the Broncos in 2017 and he moves from the right side of the line to his natural left guard position next to Paradis in the middle, where he didn’t allow a sack last season.
You can bet the Broncos will be running behind this side of the line quite a bit, and hopefully, their success will bleed over to the right side.
It’s been a long while since any part of the offensive line was cause for excitement in Denver, but Bolles’ year two progression combined with Leary’s position switch and Paradis’ continued excellence gives the Broncos a formidable trio at center, left guard, and left tackle.
