4. Patrick Mahomes

Of all the quarterbacks in the AFC West, Patrick Mahomes is potentially the most talented quarterback in the division.

Mahomes’ ability to keep plays alive with his feet begs the question of how’d he fit in the system at Texas Tech. The accurate, strong arm of Mahomes in college does parallel Aaron Rodgers. However, there’s always the unknown.

Mahomes was drafted 10th overall in 2017. It became a matter of time before the Kansas City Chiefs gave Mahomes the keys to their franchise. But the team saw plenty of success with Alex Smith at quarterback.

Smith’s ability matched the scheme of head coach Andy Reid, but the team failed to get over the hump in the playoffs.

We do not know if Mahomes will reach his talent ceiling. That said, if Mahomes does not make it, then the Kansas City Chiefs will regret moving on from Smith during the offseason in 2018.

The Chiefs’ quarterback play is boom or bust because of the talent of their first-round draft pick.
