Denver Broncos: Offensive tackle position preview
Cyrus Kouandjio, age 24
Cyrus Kouandjio was the first Nick Saban coached player from Alabama to join the Denver Broncos in the John Elway era, believe it or not.
The Buffalo Bills picked Kouandjio in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft and gave up on him two years into his rookie contract.
Kouandjio was picked up by the Detroit Lions but never played a game for them.
The Broncos scooped up Kouandjio while he was recovering from an injury and signed him to a two-year deal, indicating their scouting department felt good about his long-term prospects.
Kouandjio got a chance to shine as a starting right tackle for the Broncos in the season finale against the Chiefs, and he played quite well.
A 6-foot-7, 322-pound mammoth, Kouandjio fits the profile of the type of player the Broncos have identified physically since John Elway took over the team in 2011.
He’s physical but definitely needed some refinement coming out of college. The Broncos are hoping this former high school star and top-ranked recruit can realize his full potential in their program.
He has a chance to be a spot starter this season and the Broncos’ top swing tackle.
