Chad Kelly, age 24

When the Broncos drafted Chad Kelly with the final selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, some blew it off as unimportant while others took to the film room to see one of the most impressive dual-threat quarterbacks in that particular draft class.

Kelly struggled with injuries his senior season at Ole Miss, and had some off-field issues throughout his college days that caused teams to stay away from him in the 2017 Draft, but John Elway got a strong recommendation from Jim Kelly (Chad’s uncle, in case you’ve been living under a rock) and took a chance on him.

Kelly has not only stayed out of trouble off the field, he’s worked incredibly hard to get himself into NFL shape and has become an asset in the Denver community.

Kelly’s upside is tremendous if you’re asking me.

The fully healthy version of Kelly was a JUCO All-American and National Champion, and one of the best players in the SEC his first year in the league.

Kelly absolutely destroyed SEC defenses in 2015 when he became one of a very small group of quarterbacks to beat Alabama in the Nick Saban era.

Kelly’s experience running an offense loaded with RPOs gives him a great advantage in today’s NFL, but the most impressive thing that stood out to me on his college tape was his natural feel for the game.

This kid is a great athlete and if you follow him on social media, no Broncos player has put in more work this offseason.

Hopefully, the Broncos will continue to develop Kelly properly, and give him a chance to compete for a starting role down the line. He will compete with Paxton Lynch to be the team’s backup to start the 2018 season.
