Clinton McDonald, DL

The Broncos didn’t sign a traditional nose tackle to back up Domata Peko this offseason, but they did add some very good depth to the interior with the addition of veteran free agent Clinton McDonald, most recently of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McDonald had 5.5 sacks last season with the Bucs and has proven to be a very reliable pass rusher, racking up 8.5 sacks in his last 26 games.

As a rotational interior player, it doesn’t get much better.

The Broncos need McDonald to help provide some more pass rush from their interior, as Adam Gotsis has proven to be much more effective up to this point as a run defender.

Though Shelby Harris broke out last season, the Broncos have plans for McDonald, perhaps to play some in relief of Derek Wolfe, but certainly to contribute where he’s most effective, which is lined up against the guard.

McDonald has not participated in OTAs up to this point, with the team making sure he’s fully healthy for training camp, but up to this point, we’ve obviously not seen anything or heard anything of what the team plans to do with him this season.
