Watch out for Royce Freeman

Head coach Vance Joseph made it pretty clear that the departure of C.J. Anderson will open things up at the running back position competition-wise.

Even last offseason, Anderson wasn’t guaranteed a starting job.

It seems like the Broncos have been looking for a reason to make a change at the running back position, and one player that needs to be under close watch is rookie Royce Freeman.

When John Elway called Freeman to notify him of his being drafted, he said he wanted him to be the team’s ‘bell cow’.

Andrew Mason of DenverBroncos.com said Freeman caught his eye in the one practice that was available to media for viewing.

There’s no reason at this point to believe Freeman is the leader in the competition over Devontae Booker, but his consistent production at Oregon almost caused a lull in excitement over what he brings to the table as a player.

Specifically for the Broncos, we dove into his ability to make an impact as a first down runner, something the Broncos struggled with badly and something he excelled in more than any back in the 2018 class.

That excitement could be reignited now that he’s in the NFL and in a very good situation with the Broncos.
