Restricted Free Agents

A restricted free agent is likely to remain with their current team. The player must play at least six games in each of his three seasons with the team. Denver can tender them if the player does so.

Other teams can sign these free agents to an offer sheet. Denver would be rewarded with a compensatory pick if they fail to match the offer sheet for the player.

ILB Zaire Anderson – The pending departure of Shane Ray will make re-signing Anderson very important.

DT DeShawn Williams – Williams will compete in training camp for a roster spot in 2018. The Broncos already have Domata Peko, who, barring something major, will be the starter.  If Williams gets significant playing time in 2018, and shows he has what it takes to be a backup, he should be brought back.

DE Stansley Maponga – Maponga is likely headed to the team’s practice squad.

LS Casey Kreiter – I think the team will definitely be interested in re-signing Kreiter.

WR Jordan Taylor – Coming off double hip surgery this offseason, Taylor will need to show that he is recovered and produce a lot of stats in order to come back in 2019. That’s if the team chooses to keep him on the roster in 2018. Denver drafted two receivers in April, making Taylor expendable.

CB Michael Hunter – I’m not sure Hunter will even make this year’s 53-man roster.

DT Kyle Peko – He has been off and on the team’s roster the last year. He’s bound to be off again. The team might choose to continue this game of musical chairs.

CB C.J. Smith – Like Hunter, Smith is currently buried on the depth chart. His 2018 roster spot is in jeopardy.
