Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU

Despite the fact that Sutton received pretty much unanimous first-round grades, picking him 40th overall wasn’t a no-brainer for the Broncos.

Though some had been banging the table for the Broncos to get receivers in this year’s draft, I didn’t necessarily view it as that pressing of a need.

But I had no problem when the card was turned in for Sutton, and this is a pick we should all be excited about.

In addition to keeping the theme of being a team leader and very hard worker, Sutton is a playmaker that can give the Broncos some much-needed depth in the offensive weaponry department.

Sutton does a couple of things really well right now that can help the Broncos, and I wrote about those at length here.

His ability to adjust to poorly thrown balls as well as provide quarterbacks with a ridiculous catch radius will earn him snaps right away.

The Broncos envision Sutton as a future number one receiver, but it’s clear he can line up at either of the outside positions or inside at the slot and have success right away.
