Royce Freeman – Running Back

The departure of running back CJ Anderson opened the door for a competition at the position. The NFL has turned into a passing league, but the guys behind the quarterback are still important.

Denver drafted Royce Freeman in the third round in April’s draft. Drafting a player that high makes it seem like other players at that position aren’t guaranteed to start.

That means Royce could potentially become the Broncos’ starting running back sometime during the season, maybe even week 1.

The Broncos would still use Devontae Booker and second-year guy De’Angelo Henderson, but running back is a position that gets hit a lot, making the emergence of multiple backs very important.

Former CSU running back Phillip Lindsay is another name to watch. While he likely wouldn’t secure the number 1 spot on the depth chart, he has a shot at making the team. Lindsay rushed for 1,474 yards in 2017.
