Orleans Darkwa, RB, Giants

Orleans Darkwa is a name I have mentioned before as a potential veteran option for the Broncos to bring in.

I think at worst, this is a player you bring in for training camp to see if he could possibly be an option for your rotation going forward.

The Broncos have a connection to Darkwa on their coaching staff in Mike Sullivan, the quarterbacks coach, who was the offensive coordinator for the Giants this past season.

Sullivan called a game against the Broncos in prime time — in Denver — where he featured Darkwa in the running game.

It was still relatively early in the season, but Darkwa had arguably his best game as a pro football player against one of the best run defenses in the NFL, a defense that had stifled some Pro Bowl running backs in prior weeks.

The Broncos released C.J. Anderson this offseason and got younger at the running back position through the draft, taking Royce Freeman and David Williams as well as signing Phillip Lindsay in undrafted free agency.

I think with five backs on the roster, the Broncos could add at least one more and a guy like Darkwa interests me because he’s still young (only 26) and showed flashes last season that he can carry a load when called upon.
