Off-Ball Linebacker

Brandon Marshall returns as the Broncos’ leader at the linebacker position, along with fellow inside linebacker Todd Davis.

Davis signed a three-year contract to come back to the Broncos this offseason, and both players have now earned second contracts with the team after coming over from another team’s practice squad.

Marshall and Davis will be the starters this season when healthy, but the Broncos made a phenomenal move in the draft at this position when they used their first of two fourth round selections on Iowa’s Josey Jewell.

I’ve been talking up Jewell all offseason, and I do not expect him to disappoint. He is an instinctive player who was wildly productive for four years at Iowa.

He was joined in the Broncos’ 2018 draft class by Washington’s Keishawn Bierria, a guy who can come in right away and provide depth as well as special teams ability, helping replace Corey Nelson.

Other players to watch:

Zaire Anderson: Anderson has stuck around for a few years after being undrafted out of Nebraska. He will be a core special teams player if he makes the roster this year.

Jerrol Garcia-Williams: The Broncos found Garcia-Williams as an undrafted player out of Hawaii last year, and he ended up getting some run later in the season both on defense and on special teams when injuries starting biting them at linebacker.

Joseph Jones: The Broncos took Jones off of the Seahawks’ practice squad this past year, and he has big time speed for the linebacker position. He has core special teams qualities.

Christian Kuntz: Former undrafted player who was brought on to compete at linebacker and possibly as a long snapper as well.
