The Denver Broncos are reportedly looking into trading up to the number two overall pick with the Giants in order to select a quarterback…

The Denver Broncos are reportedly exploring the option of trading up in the 2018 NFL Draft to move up and get themselves a quarterback.

This report comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who thinks we might see some early ‘fireworks’ in the Draft.

Here’s his report:

This report makes sense for a couple of reasons.

First of all, the Broncos’ top two quarterbacks are reportedly Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. The Cleveland Browns can’t take both.

As much as it would hurt the Broncos’ draft capital this year to move up and get a quarterback, if they believe this is a franchise-altering move, they should not hesitate to pull the trigger.

Mayfield and Darnold are both franchise quarterback types, and both have the chance to make a significant impact on this franchise over the long-term.

Why Darnold?

Darnold has big time intangibles, and despite some concerns about his propensity for turnovers, he’s a tough competitor and well ahead of his years in terms of football IQ and maturity as a player.

The upside with Darnold both on the field and in terms of his intangibles is off the charts.

Why Mayfield?

The Broncos have loved Mayfield since the start of the draft process, and probably long before that. They requested he be part of their Senior Bowl roster in January, and brought him to Denver for a two-day visit.

If the Broncos know which quarterback the Browns are taking with the first overall pick, and they have a chance to get the number one or two quarterback on their board, you’d better believe John Elway is going to do what he can to make that pick happen.

It may cost the Broncos a 2019 first round draft pick, but Elway will do what it takes to get the deal done.
