Denver Broncos will host Anthony Averett for pre-draft visit
The Denver Broncos will reportedly host cornerback Anthony Averett for a pre-draft visit. How high will John Elway draft a cornerback?
The Denver Broncos have done a lot of pre-draft homework on the cornerback position, and that will continue this week with an up-coming visit with former Alabama corner Anthony Averett.
Averett is a 6-foot, 185 pound corner with exceptional speed (ran a 4.36 second 40-yard dash at the 2018 Scouting Combine) and excellent athleticism.
One of the common traits for all of the cornerbacks the Broncos have brought in for pre-draft visits is that they excel in man coverage.
Averett is no different, using his physicality, length, and speed to match wide receivers one-on-one.

The caliber of some of the corners the Broncos have been looking at (Isaiah Oliver, Donte Jackson, and Averett) would seem to indicate the Broncos are interested in a cornerback as high as the second round.
Those top three guys also have great speed and length, and could give the Broncos some help on special teams.
In the article linked above, Averett talks about how he feels he’s one of the most underrated cornerbacks in the draft, noting that teams didn’t really throw his way this past season.
Alabama has a history of cranking out top flight defensive players in Nick Saban’s tenure as head coach of the team, but for the most part, the Broncos have not drafted Saban’s kids.
The only player the Broncos have had on the roster from the Saban era at Alabama is current offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio, though they have shown interest in a variety of other players.
Notably, the Broncos reportedly attempted to trade up in the 2014 NFL Draft to select linebacker C.J. Mosley, but they were unable to get up ahead of the Baltimore Ravens.
Averett would be a great pick for the Broncos in round two, giving them a top flight trio of cornerbacks once again and another player with exceptional athleticism, speed, and confidence.
