To round out McShay’s ideal Denver Broncos draft, he has Elway selecting Austin Corbett with the 71st pick and Dorance Armstrong with their compensatory pick.
Austin Corbett is a guard out of Nevada who primarily played tackle, but is better suited for an interior line position. As noted by draft analyst Erik Lambert, Corbett would be a great pickup in the third round by a team needing immediate depth.
Dorance Armstrong is a defensive end prospect out of Kansas. A two-year starter, he declared for the draft as a true junior. Due to his size and athleticism, he is more likely to be an edge player similar to Von Miller in Denver’s defensive scheme.
Neither of these picks rubs me the wrong way at a high level. However, if the Broncos don’t grab an off-ball linebacker in round one or two, I want to see Elway draft Iowa’s Josey Jewell.
Two other third-round options would be Colorado State wide receiver Michael Gallup and Stanford cornerback Quentin Meeks.
Conclusion
While McShay’s mock draft doesn’t provide context into what the Broncos are actually doing, it provides insight into team needs.
The Denver Broncos do have needs at guard, cornerback, wide receiver, and edge in addition to quarterback and off-ball linebacker. Where Elway grabs each of these positions is something we will find out in just two weeks!
