Denver Broncos mock draft: Flexibility equals new franchise QB
The Denver Broncos have great flexibility in the 2018 NFL Draft thanks to their maneuvering in free agency and on the trade market. Will that mean a QB?
After all the moves the Denver Broncos have made via free agency and trades, the team now has the ultimate flexibility in the 2018 NFL Draft, with virtually no pressing needs and a clear vision for the roster going forward.
The Broncos hit on their biggest need by signing Case Keenum right away in free agency, and they addressed their other major needs by re-signing Todd Davis at inside linebacker, and signing Tramaine Brock at cornerback.
Perhaps the most underrated move the Broncos made was to trade a sixth round pick for Jared Veldheer, who will be their new starting right tackle.
The Broncos also acquired defensive line depth with former Buccaneers defensive captain Clinton McDonald, who will provide additional pass rush on the interior defensive line.
The most interesting move the Broncos made was the trade for Su’a Cravens, who was a player they valued highly in the same draft class they picked Paxton Lynch in the first round.
Cravens, according to some reports, had a first round grade from the Broncos’ front office in that draft.
With all the moves that have been made, the Broncos’ 2018 draft class could go a variety of directions. If the right player falls, it would be wise for the team to take a quarterback at number five overall, despite some of what I’ve said throughout the offseason.
I put together this mock draft using the Fanspeak ‘On The Clock’ simulator. The top three picks were as follows:
1. Sam Darnold; 2. Josh Allen; 3. Baker Mayfield; 4. Bradley Chubb.
This is what I came up with, with that in mind…
