Should the Denver Broncos Sign Punter Marquette King
By Tylor Walden
Marquette King, one of the best punters in the NFL, was released by the Oakland Raiders on Friday. Should the Denver Broncos sign him?
The Denver Broncos have made some decent moves in free agency so far. They could make a big splash if they can find a way to get Marquette King to the Mile High City.
Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders announced that the team released all-pro punter Marquette King. A move that was pretty surprising, the punter is now looking for a new team. It is uncertain what propelled the move, but it is highly unlikely he will be long without a job.
Would signing Marquette King make sense for the Denver Broncos. From a financial standpoint, it might be a bit tricky. His contract was at five years for $16.5 million. This year, he would have made close to three million. I see where he was worth that money. But will John Elway be willing to fork that over? Or maybe he can find a team friendly deal.
Now, from a playing standpoint, having Marquette King punting in that Mile High air could really put opposing offenses in a jam. Last season, he averaged 47.4 yards per punt. That is pretty solid from what Riley Dixon averaged. (45.6 yards per punt)
I am certain that his punt average would jump by plenty if he played in Denver. He also could be used for trick plays. Marquette King has quite the speed on him.
Even Broncos Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe would like to see King in Denver.

If the Denver Broncos can make it work, I would be all for it. In a position that dictates field position, the Broncos need all the help they can get. If it takes Marquette King to do that, I am putting all my cards in for that move.
Perhaps getting the chance to play his old team twice a year could sway his decision. Only time will tell what happens with King. Hopefully it works out.
