Defensive Line

Current projected starters: Derek Wolfe (LDE), Domata Peko (NT), Adam Gotsis (RDE)

Potential starter options in-house: DeMarcus Walker (DE), Shelby Harris (DT), Clinton McDonald (DT), Zach Kerr (DE)

Developmental options: Kyle Peko (NT), DeShawn Williams (DT), Paul Boyette Jr. (NT), Jhaustin Thomas (DE)

For the time being, the Broncos have fantastic depth on the defensive line. That could all change relatively quickly, however.

The Broncos have Derek Wolfe, DeMarcus Walker, Adam Gotsis, and Clinton McDonald under contract after this season. Shelby Harris is expected to be under team control as well, but they also have Domata Peko and Zach Kerr coming up on contract years.

I could see the Broncos being active in this year’s draft in adding some defensive linemen that could contribute beyond this season.

What’s going to happen with Adam Gotsis’ off-field situation? Is Derek Wolfe’s health a big enough concern to draft a player like Bradley Chubb, and keep yourself covered going forward?

The big concern here is, guys like Chubb and Wolfe play different positions, and have different playing styles. The Broncos would likely rather pick someone like Taven Bryan, who has actually been compared to Wolfe, to eventually be his successor.

But there are also needs on the interior.

Perhaps this is an area the Broncos feel comfortable addressing in 2019 free agency, but I would be shocked if one of their nine draft picks wasn’t a defensive lineman.
