Offensive Guard

Current projected starters: Ron Leary (LG), Max Garcia (RG)

Possible starter options in-house: Connor McGovern, Menelik Watson, Billy Turner

Developmental options: J.J. Dielman, Jeremiah Poutasi

The Denver Broncos made a great move in the 2017 offseason by signing Ron Leary away from the Dallas Cowboys, but because of Max Garcia’s preference to play left guard, Leary was forced to play out of position on the right side.

One year after experimenting, the Broncos seem likely to move Leary back to his original left guard position. That means Garcia is either going to have to figure out the right guard spot, or he will be overtaken by someone else.

Connor McGovern started some for the Broncos last season, and as this post is being written, Menelik Watson is still on the roster and getting paid a lot of money. Those two players seem to be the most likely options for the Broncos to start at right guard if they don’t draft someone to start there early.

There are a number of strong candidates in this year’s draft class, starting obviously with Quenton Nelson, who would have to be the Broncos’ pick at number five overall. The Broncos also have significant interest in UTEP guard Will Hernandez, who seems like a lock for the first round.
