The Denver Broncos have signed quarterback Case Keenum for two seasons, but Keenum wants to remain a Bronco for the rest of his career.

New starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos Case Keenum signed for two seasons, but hopes to stay in Denver for the long run.

In the introductory press conference that was held for new Broncos starting quarterback Case Keenum, he stated that, “I want to play the rest of my career here, but I think the two years is an opportunity for me to continue to prove myself.”

So, depending on if Keenum can have individual success, as well as helping the team win games, there is a possibility of a contract extension beyond the two-year contract he signed the other day. That is the ideal scenario, not only for Keenum, but for the team and Broncos fans.

The quarterback position has been a major question mark since the retirement of Peyton Manning. The Broncos have gone through a number of guys trying to be “the guy” to help Denver get back into playoff form. Throughout the entire 2017 season, the Broncos started three quarterbacks: Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch.

Exit Siemian (traded to the Minnesota Vikings). Exit Osweiler (free agent). Enter Case Keenum, Lynch, and Chad Kelly. Denver could also draft a quarterback this offseason. No matter what the quarterback room looks like, Keenum will be the starter. So, there’s that. No training camp quarterback competition. No controversy.

Broncos General Manager John Elway said of acquiring Keenum, “We got our guy.” That’s a very good endorsement. Those are music to Broncos Country’s ears. It’s something the fans have been looking for since Peyton Manning.

It’s not difficult to improve on the type of poor season the Broncos had last year. Especially when they won just five games. Keenum had tremendous success last year with the Vikings as he led them to the NFC Championship game. With the type of receivers he will be throwing to in a Broncos uniform, it’s easy to imagine a lot better success.

I also think it is easy to picture Keenum being the starting quarterback for the Broncos for years to come. He is 30-years-old. He likely will not be playing another ten or twelve years. However, he could probably be the guy the Broncos need to help them get back to the playoffs.
