Denver Broncos general manager John Elway introduced new quarterback Case Keenum to the media on Friday, and called him the starting quarterback…

The 2018 NFL Draft hasn’t happened yet, so we don’t know what else is yet to come for the Denver Broncos at the quarterback position. But as of right now, it’s pretty clear that Case Keenum is going to be the starting quarterback of the team until someone out-performs him.

General manager John Elway introduced Keenum to the media on Friday, and introduced him as the ‘starting quarterback’. He actually introduced ‘starting quarterback…Case Keesum’ but corrected himself on the mis-pronunciation quickly.

When discussing Keenum, Elway made it a point to let it be known that the Broncos had gotten ‘their guy’ at the position.

Vance Joseph took it a step further, and called Keenum ‘the piece we were missing’.

That’s certainly high praise for a player coming in on a two-year contract.

With the move to sign Keenum, and with Paxton Lynch still having two, three years on his rookie contract if the Broncos want to exercise that option, there’s no doubt the Broncos have options with that number five overall pick.

What they do there is another post entirely.

Joseph answered the question of a hypothetical camp battle by saying simply, “Case is our quarterback.” If that sentiment is shared throughout the entirety of the Broncos’ brass, you have to imagine that them not taking a quarterback at number five is a distinct possibility.

Would it be the wisest decision? I’m not sure. This is a team with other needs on the roster, specifically right now at guard and tackle, and those needs can’t go unaddressed. The Broncos know they have the ability to take an impact player with the fifth overall pick, and they are taking that position very seriously by sending their top personnel to the pro days of all the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
