Denver Broncos: Sam Darnold coming for pre-draft visit
Despite the newest addition of Case Keenum as quarterback for the Denver Broncos, there’s a possibility the team still drafts Sam Darnold at five…
The Denver Broncos will host Sam Darnold for a private workout, according to general manager John Elway.
There is no set date yet, but it will be before the 2018 NFL Draft. The USC quarterback is a very raw prospect like Josh Allen, but Darnold has underrated mobility and better accuracy. Darnold certainly knows how to make precise throws to the sideline as well. There’s a lot to love about him.
Like Allen, Darnold has his inconsistencies with interceptions and protecting the football. His delivery doesn’t look pretty, but that doesn’t matter with the NFL. Just ask Phillip Rivers. The Denver Broncos are showing interest in all of the top quarterbacks in the NFL Draft. Darnold, at this point, won’t be there when Broncos pick at five.

The pre-draft visit/workout with Sam Darnold is not only time Broncos saw him up close. During the College Football Playoffs against the Ohio State Buckeyes, John Elway and a few others were in attendance to watch Darnold.
Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen are the logical candidates to be available at five for the Denver Broncos. In fact, the Broncos have sent seven people to each of their Pro Day’s. This shows the interest in drafting a quarterback high.
When a team owns the fifth pick in the draft all options should be explored. This includes players that will picked before the Broncos. There’s evidence the Broncos are exhausting every alternative at quarterback even with Case Keenum in the fold.
During the NFL Combine, the Broncos interviewed seven of the biggest quarterbacks in the NFL Draft.
While highly unlikely, Darnold will still gain the interest of the Broncos as we get ever so closer to the NFL Draft in April.
