It is customary to welcome a new free agent, but it is another to receive a message from a Hall of Famer and former Denver Broncos quarterback.
The Denver Broncos found their starting quarterback for 2018 and it is Case Keenum. This move doesn’t take the franchise away from adding another quarterback at five, for those wondering. Keenum signed a two-year deal worth $36 million ensuring the Broncos have solidified the position in free agency.
Free agency is a fascinating time to Broncos Country. This was the offseason that brought Peyton Manning to Denver in one of the craziest media circuses in recent memory. Manning signing in Denver solidified the Mile High City as a “hot bed” for free agents to come visit.
Another tact is reaching out to a player once they are signed. For Manning, he’s been doing this from the time he left the Denver Broncos.
The Broncos missed out on Kirk Cousins and the team put a full-court press on Case Keenum to secure his services. Once that became official yesterday, Peyton Manning reached out to Keenum. Keenum is the last significant quarterback free agent to come to Denver.
This is nothing new to Peyton Manning. Manning is close to the most genuine professional athlete around. Manning has ensured he still loves the time with the Denver Broncos. A text message or phone call to Case Keenum certainly reinforces that.
When two Hall of Fame quarterbacks give you their blessing to be their starter, it’s something special. John Elway, President of Football Operations signed on the current team. Now retired Peyton Manning called him to wish him good luck.
