Denver Broncos: John Elway at Baker Mayfield’s pro day
The Denver Broncos are not messing around with the quarterback position. John Elway is at Baker Mayfield’s pro day in Oklahoma…
It’s the first day of the new league year when free agents can officially sign contracts, trades can officially go through, and the Denver Broncos’ brain trust led by John Elway is at Baker Mayfield’s pro day in Oklahoma.
Do you think there might be some interest there?
The Broncos have not been discrete about their interest in Mayfield thus far this offseason, requesting he be part of their roster at the 2018 Senior Bowl in Mobile, and proclaiming publicly at the Scouting Combine that they would be meeting with him both in Indianapolis as well as having a private visit in Denver.
There’s no doubt about it — the Broncos really like Baker Mayfield. This is further proof of that.
The Broncos are planning to sign Case Keenum to a free agent contract later today, and it’s likely Elway and company will be back in Denver this afternoon to get whatever deals done in person they have planned, but it is interesting to see Elway off site for the first day of the new league year.
Mayfield could be the perfect fit for the Broncos with Case Keenum getting just a two-year contract from Denver, reportedly.

He has the type of swagger the Broncos need at the position from a young rookie, and is the most accurate quarterback in this year’s draft.
The Broncos don’t have to take a quarterback with the fifth overall pick, but it would be foolish of them not to given the fact that they didn’t sign Keenum to a long-term deal.
We know Mayfield is going to have a great workout, because it’s a scripted pro day workout, but what are the Broncos hoping to glean from being at the pro day? They don’t need Mayfield to know they are interested in him. They don’t need other teams to know either.
The Broncos’ strong presence at Mayfield’s pro day means they are taking any and every opportunity they can get to get to know this young player before they think about drafting him with a top five selection.
Elway and company are expected to be in Los Angeles for Josh Rosen’s pro day on Thursday.
