What If… Case Keenum Does Not Work Out in Denver?

There is always a good and a bad with everything. So, it goes without saying these words. What if after two years, the Case Keenum experiment fails? With how unpredictable the NFL can be, it is not too far fetched.

If after two years it falls flat, I have no doubt that John Elway would be ready. I think the reason for signing Case Keenum was to get the next franchise quarterback ready. A good team must always prepare.

Look at the Philadelphia Eagles. When Carson Wentz went down, Nick Foles stepped right in and continued rolling the train right down to a Super Bowl 52 victory.

While Denver’s situation could be different, this would give either Paxton Lynch or Chad Kelly the perfect chance to get ready, perfect their craft, and take over if needed. Lynch’s first two years in Denver have been lackluster. Kelly has yet to sniff the practice field, let alone a game.

Case Keenum could provide the mentor role. Something that Paxton Lynch did not have in his first two years. This is granted that Lynch sticks around. His future could really depend on a lot of factors.

And don’t forget, the Denver Broncos are not ruling out drafting a quarterback with the fifth pick. Having someone like a Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen, or any other quarterback can benefit from learning from a veteran.

John Elway is always prepared. If Keenum ends up becoming a one year wonder, the plan will be set in place by the time of his departure.
