Adam Schefter broke the news late Monday night regarding the Broncos and Case Keenum set on signing a contract on Wednesday.
The NFL Free Agency Frenzy is almost like Christmas in March, and for Case Keenum his present is playing in Denver on Sunday’s.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported late Monday Evening on Keenum’s intent to sign with the Broncos at the beginning of the NFL Free Agency period.
For the Broncos, finding a long-term solution at Quarterback has been the top priority for John Elway this off-season. Last season, the Broncos finished 5-11 with more to be desired from the quarterback position.
Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch played from under center last season and all three experienced difficulties performing. All three quarterbacks combined for 19 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions. Frustration mounted in Denver as the organization was stuck without a solution at the position.
Following Peyton Manning’s retirement, the Broncos have missed out on reliable leadership at quarterback. With the addition of Keenum, Denver will address that area of need with his veteran presence.
Keenum started 15 games for Minnesota in 2017, throwing for 22 touchdowns compared to 7 interceptions which led them to a 13-3 record. Keenum also finished with a career high 67% pass percentage with 3547 yards passing.
The Broncos planned on luring Kirk Cousins to Denver, however they didn’t have the cap space Cousins desired. It appears likely that Keenum’s former team in Minnesota will land Cousins. Heading into 2018, Keenum has a new start, a hungry defense, and Bill Musgrave as an offensive coordinator.
What To Expect With Keenum
Case Keenum will bring the Denver Broncos much more production than what they’ve experienced. His ability to step up in the pocket and make throws was a key reason the Vikings went 13-3.
The Broncos must now build around Keenum by bolstering the offensive line. Expect the Broncos to address Right Tackle in the Draft or through Free Agency.
The Broncos could still draft a quarterback. Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield are two QB’s who could be the Broncos pick.
