According to multiple reports, the Denver Broncos have extended a second round tender to restricted free agent center Matt Paradis.
Paradis, a sixth round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, has started every game for the Denver Broncos since 2015, establishing himself as one of the best centers in football over that timeframe.
He was originally placed on the Broncos’ practice squad coming out of his rookie training camp, which is why the Broncos are in this position to be able to retain him as a restricted free agent now in his fifth NFL season.

The Broncos placing a second round tender on Paradis means that if any other NFL team wants to sign him to a contract, they must be prepared to give the Broncos their second round pick as compensation.

Placing the second round tender on Paradis — or most players, for that matter — usually repels teams from making offers, so Paradis is likely to be back with the Broncos unless some sort of sign-and-trade agreement is reached.
It remains to be seen if the Broncos will come to a long-term agreement with Paradis. He has had some injuries despite not missing a start, so long-term durability could be a concern. He played through two hip injuries in 2016 that required offseason surgery, but he didn’t miss a start or skip a beat in 2017.
The Broncos’ offensive line has had a lot of moving pieces over the past four years, so having the consistency from Paradis is refreshing.
Another Denver Broncos restricted free agent expected to get a second round tender is outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett. We’ll see how quickly the team moves on bringing him back, but that move should be coming shortly.
