The Denver Broncos are in the market for a new quarterback. Perhaps that player will come via the draft. The team held a visit with Baker Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield was brought in to be interviewed by the Denver Broncos during the combine.

The former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback was put to the test by multiple teams. This including the Broncos, who asked him to break down a play. Denver chose “Dice right, 72, seam on the backside and a dig,” Mayfield told Robert Klemko of Sports Illustrated.

The NFL is constantly changing; It used to be a run-first league, and it has been a pass-first league for a while now, and Mayfield is an option the Broncos could go with at 5th overall in April’s draft. The fact that Denver brought him in to interview him makes the chances of them drafting Mayfield very likely. However, the team may very well choose to go in a different direction.

There is still a possibility the Broncos bring Mayfield in for a pre-draft interview. It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see them decide to bring in the other top quarterback prospects. UCLA’s Josh Rosen, USC’s Sam Darnold, and Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph could also visit. Denver can bring in a total of 30 draft prospects before April 26, the first day of the draft.

The quarterback position has been a major question mark since the retirement of Peyton Manning. The Sheriff led the team to two Super Bowls, winning one, in his very last  NFL season. Last season, the Broncos started three quarterbacks throughout the 16-game season.

Chad Kelly is still an option to compete in offseason work and the preseason but has never really been in the discussion to start for the team. It is also possible they draft multiple quarterbacks and choose to cut or trade one (Paxton Lynch or Chad Kelly, since Osweiler will become a free agent, and Denver trying to find trade partners for Trevor Siemian).

There are plenty of options, but seeing the Broncos visit Mayfield could be the start.
