The Denver Broncos reportedly have had trade discussions about Aqib Talib with the San Francisco 49ers, but Talib isn’t fond of the idea…

The Denver Broncos are reportedly shopping cornerback Aqib Talib in a trade, and they have at least one suitor.

Diana Russini reports that the Broncos had talks with the San Francisco 49ers, but it doesn’t seem likely a deal will happen and that Talib prefers the New England Patriots and wants the Broncos to release him.

Yeah, okay.

I know this business is ruthless, and Talib has really done nothing to necessarily deserve being cut by the Broncos, it’s just the timing of needing a quarterback and everything. But I do have one question:

Who cares what he wants?

I’m sorry but this is a business and while the Broncos should be willing to do right by Talib for his contributions since 2014, there’s no way they should just let him go to one of their biggest AFC rivals just because he wants to.

More from Broncos Rumors

If the Broncos can find a viable trade partner for Talib, why would they not go after it? On the other hand, if the Broncos are only going to get a sixth or seventh round pick for Talib from a terrible team, it might be better for them if they just let him go free.

I can understand that.

Ultimately, I would have a tough time understanding why Talib is not a more desirable trade candidate, considering how well he’s playing, the fact that he’s been mostly healthy since joining the Broncos, and considering he’s making just $10 million APY on his contract over the next two seasons.

That seems like a desirable contract for any team, especially those with cap space. That’s why the 49ers make a lot of sense, and I also think the Los Angeles Rams make a lot of sense. Talib could reunite there with his pal Wade Phillips.

This is one of our first real updates on Talib since it had been rumored he was on the outside looking in, so we’ll see how the Broncos proceed…
