Eight reasons Kirk Cousins should pick the Denver Broncos
Cap Flexibility Beyond ’18
As I have mentioned in this article, the Broncos have some nice cap flexibility beyond this season.
Prior to adding Cousins to the roster, the Broncos would have an estimated $67 million in cap space next offseason, and with a variety of different contracts coming off the books, they will have $137 million in cap space in 2020.
Of course that figure will change dramatically if and when the Broncos re-sign certain players, but with who is currently under contract through those seasons, those are the figures.
That means the Broncos could actually back-load Cousins’ contract and they could truly afford to give him a fully guaranteed dea beyond just this year.
Everyone seems to think the Vikings have a huge advantage by offering Cousins a big money deal with a high cap hit this year, and they can just make it work down the line. The Broncos could just as easily offer Cousins the same guaranteed money, but spread it out differently. They could pay him more and more year after year.
The Broncos will have the ability to be aggressive in free agency with Cousins on board in the coming years, which to me is a big advantage.
