According to a report from Charles Robinson at Yahoo! Sports, the pursuit of Kirk Cousins in free agency could be similar to that of Peyton Manning

The Denver Broncos have plenty of options to fix their quarterback position in 2018, but reportedly, none stands out like Kirk Cousins.

While the general thought to this point has been that the Broncos would aggressively pursue Cousins, it’s been previously reported that Denver has a plan B, C, D, etc. in place.

While the Broncos may in fact have backup plans in place, it doesn’t sound like Cousins is just their top option. According to Charles Robinson or Yahoo! Sports, he’s the option.

"Denver Broncos general manager John Elway said Wednesday that the team is going to “explore all options” when it comes to filling the team’s void at quarterback – but one option has apparently risen above all others. Kirk Cousins has become an “all-in” target for the franchise when free agency kicks off March 14, two sources familiar with the Broncos’ free agency plans told Yahoo Sports.Charles Robinson, Yahoo! Sports"

Any notion that the Broncos might give up due to the Vikings’ perceived involvement in the Cousins sweepstakes has officially been proven false. This seems like an all-out blitz by Elway and the Denver Broncos’ front office to get Cousins, and why not?

The Broncos — as the article states — have discussed scenarios where they could get their salary cap space this offseason to $40-50 million. That might cost the Broncos some meaningful players, but pursuing Cousins would also cost the Minnesota Vikings some significant players — just not right now.

Given the fact that Cousins will have at least three significant suitors, all of which will likely be offering the type of money he wants, his free agency pursuit could be very similar to that of Peyton Manning back in 2012.

Cousins will be able to get a general ballpark of what teams are going to be offering him, and he can make his visits accordingly.

Similar to Manning, Cousins knows that teams will be willing to pay him basically what he wants, so everything is going to come down to overall fit. If that’s the case, I could write a thousand words on why the Broncos are the best team and why Denver is the best fit for Cousins and his family.

I probably will.

For similar reasons to those of Manning, the Broncos make sense for Cousins. The Broncos are most likely going to be afforded an opportunity to get with Cousins and talk about all of those reasons, and if they’re as interested as this report from Robinson states, then let the games begin.
