What did Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph have to say at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine as he addressed the media in a press conference?

Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph took the podium at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, and had some good nuggets about current players on the roster and some more vague comments about players who are not.

At least, not yet.

Here are some notes from Joseph’s session with the media I took down on some pressing topics.

On Kirk Cousins

Joseph was understandably very careful about what he said in regards to Kirk Cousins. He didn’t comment on the Broncos’ interest in Cousins, but did complement him on the fact that he’s posted three straight seasons with 4,000 passing yards, and said, ‘Obviously he’s a good one. We’ll leave it at that.’

Joseph wouldn’t say if the team would pursue a quarterback in free agency, but said the team has to play better at the position as a way to sort of dodge the question.

On Chad Kelly

Joseph confirmed what many of us have already seen on various social media outlets, that Chad Kelly is fully healthy and ready to go for Spring activities. He hadn’t seen any recent videos of Kelly, but seemed excited about the fact that he’s working hard.

On Jake Butt

Joseph stated that he thinks Butt will be a ‘full go’ for Spring activities. That will be huge, as Butt was a tremendous value for the Broncos in last year’s draft. He could be a weapon for the offense moving forward.

On De’Angelo Henderson, Carlos Henderson

The Broncos have a couple of important young players named Henderson, and Joseph said the team has high hopes for both. They really like what De’Angelo showed in the final game of the 2017 season, and he said Carlos is expected to be their third or fourth receiver and contribute on special teams.

On DeMarcus Walker

Joseph confirmed that Walker will be moving permanently to the defensive line. He said that the former second rounder will play end in the Broncos’ 3-4 defense, with the flexibility to move inside in rush situations.

I’m not sure why the Broncos ever took him out of that role in the first place. He excelled late last season, even at a lighter weight, when they moved him to the line.

On Josh Rosen

Joseph sounded very impressed by Josh Rosen and said that he ‘looked like a pro’ on tape, and he was excited to ‘meet with him’ this week. Inadvertently, Joseph confirmed that the Broncos will meet with Rosen at the Combine. That should come as no surprise, but it’s good  to know that it’s for sure going to happen.

On Emmanuel Sanders & Demaryius Thomas coming back

Joseph wouldn’t explicitly say that both of these players are coming back, but said they want ‘all of their good players to come back.’

It didn’t seem like he was putting it to a coin toss or anything, but it sounded like the Broncos are obviously leaning toward doing what it takes to keep both of those players.
