Derek Wolfe has provided a lot to the Denver Broncos defense. One of the players who plays with intensity and heart. But could the Broncos move on?

When it comes to the Denver Broncos defense, Derek Wolfe has brought that DEFWU attitude that offenses fear. Helping stop the run and getting to the quarterback was in his DNA. There was no stopping him. Well, except for some injuries that came along the way.

Derek Wolfe suffered through a scary neck injury during the 2013 season that saw him go to the hospital in a preseason contest. Later on that year, a seizure would keep him out for the remainder of the season.

2014 and 2015 saw the best Derek Wolfe. As the Super Bowl run began that year, Wolfe was offered a nice contract that would keep him in Denver for the next four years. A Super Bowl Champion, Derek Wolfe has provided stability on the defensive line…when healthy.

With his health status and the Broncos in a financial situation, another name that has floated around that could be a cap casualty is Derek Wolfe. He is due nine million this season. He will receive eight million plus a one million option bonus on March 18th.

Derek Wolfe has said that his neck has gotten better. We will know more around the time training camp begins. Even with the neck injury, I just do not see the Broncos parting ways with Wolfe. It would make zero sense to take apart the defense. It also would not make sense financially to go forward with the release.

There are plenty of options other than releasing a player who has become quite the force on the defensive side of the ball. If the Broncos seriously want to pursue Kirk Cousins, find another way. We shall see what John Elway does this offseason.
