Edge Defender: Deiontrez Mount

Like Cyrus Kouandjio, Deiontrez Mount was a player that stood out in the season finale.

The Broncos signed Mount with less than two weeks left in the preseason, indicating to me they wanted to stash him on their practice squad right away with the intent of eventually bringing him up.

You don’t usually add players late in the preseason unless your scouting department has identified them as players they’d like to develop.

That proved to be the case with Mount, who was disruptive off the edge in the season finale and showed off his ability to set the edge as well as push the pocket around a little bit.

I like Mount’s all-around game, even though he’s not necessarily flashy in one area. He’s got some size and speed off the edge, and is worth the Broncos’ energy in developing. When the team finally hires a ‘pass rush coach’ I think he will be a major benefactor.
