Washington Redskins safety D.J. Swearinger thinks free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins is going to end up with the Denver Broncos…
One of Kirk Cousins’ former teammates and fellow captains on the Washington Redskins thinks he’s going to sign with the Denver Broncos.
Redskins safety D.J. Swearinger, appearing on NFL Network on Monday, said that he thinks Denver’s defense and lack of quarterback makes them the obvious fit.
There wasn’t any indication given that Swearinger has some kind of inside information. Perhaps if he did, he would have kept it more under wraps.
Rather, this is likely just another situation of someone connecting the dots between the Broncos and Cousins, and as I have said seemingly a million times already and will continue to say until he signs with the Broncos or someone else — this is a fit that makes a lot of sense.
The Broncos, to me, are a quarterback away. Of course, they have other areas that need addressing, but I believe key pieces are in place for this team to make a run if they can just get into the postseason with a competent quarterback.

The Broncos of 2017 are no better example of this. When the quarterbacks played even decent football, the Broncos won. But when they played below average (the majority of the time), they lost.
It isn’t that simple for every team, but the Broncos are a team that has proven they can win with average to below average quarterback play. Last year, however, they sort of broke down.
The defense couldn’t carry the team any further than it already had, which included a nine-win season in 2016, which was clearly overachieving because the roster was arguably better in 2017.
There will obviously be many factors here, but now one of Cousins’ former teammates has spoken up and said he thinks he’s going to end up playing in Denver.
I think that’s something to definitely take into consideration.
