The Denver Broncos will have some tough decisions to make during the 2018 offseason. One player that they could let walk is running back C.J. Anderson.
There is no doubt that the Denver Broncos are going to make some tough decisions within the next month with their current roster. One name speculated to be on the move is C.J. Anderson. But, he just had his first 1,000 yard season. Why would he be on the move?
According to Jeff Legwold over at ESPN, there are a variety of factors as to why Anderson could see himself on a new team in 2018. One of the obvious choices is how much money the Denver Broncos would save by removing him from the roster. Anderson’s opt-out in his contract would cost the Broncos nothing if traded or released.
By removing C.J. Anderson from the books, the Broncos would have four million towards their cap space. That could help in getting another free agent or use it for the draft. But that would not be the other reason for making this move.
John Elway would not make the move if he did not think the players behind a starter could pick up the slack. As was reported earlier, Devontae Booker could fill in those shoes nicely if the Broncos decide to part ways with Anderson.
The recent release of former running backs coach Eric Studesville did not sit well with C.J. Anderson this offseason. And with Studesville going to Miami, that could be an ideal spot for the running back to land.

Elway letting Anderson walk most likely would not surprise most of Broncos Country. While his 1,000 season last year was phenomenal, it would make the most sense from a financial standpoint.
C.J. Anderson is a fan favorite to some. But when it comes to improving the team to get better, some sacrifices must be made.
