The Denver Broncos have to figure out their quarterback situation. Kirk Cousins could be the answer. But Jimmy Garoppolo’s new deal could nix that.
Money talks in the NFL today. The Denver Broncos are looking for a quarterback that will get the team back to the Super Bowl. There are more options now than ever. The team could decide to look at a veteran presence that could help.
Other options include the draft or a trade for a well rounded quarterback like Nick Foles. With so many options, it is difficult to tell what direction the team will go in. One name that has been linked to the Denver Broncos at quarterback is Kirk Cousins. He still has plenty of years left and could be a big piece to the Denver Broncos offense.
However, a deal that went down today in San Francisco might put that plan on hold, at least for now. During the season, the New England Patriots traded Jimmy Garoppolo to the 49ers. And today, it appears the bay area team is set to make him their franchise quarterback. He was given a five year, $137.5 million deal. Which averages to be close to $28 million a year.
Next: Jimmy Garoppolo's Deal Sets Market for Kirk Cousins
This deal will reset the market for other quarterbacks. Which means Kirk Cousins just got a lot more expensive for Denver. That is if they acquire him. The challenge lies on if John Elway wants to spend that money. This is especially true if the Washington Redskins want to get something from Cousins in return. And they will probably do what they can to do so.
Do not get me wrong, there is still a chance it happens. It just takes a hit with the Garoppolo deal that took place on Thursday afternoon. With that said, Elway’s choice at quarterback will be major.
