ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay thinks the Denver Broncos will take Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield in his latest first-round mock draft…

The Denver Broncos will be in search of a new quarterback (or two) this offseason. When the dominos start falling this offseason, the Broncos’ situation could change dramatically.

One player who has obviously been connected a ton with the Broncos already is Oklahoma’s Heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield, who would certainly bring some star power to the Mile High City and some swagger to a position that desperately needs it.

ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay put out his second mock draft of the offseason, and projected the Broncos to take Mayfield with their fifth overall selection.

McShay alluded to the fact that the Broncos need to move on from Paxton Lynch, and that the scenario of both Mayfield and Wyoming’s Josh Allen being on the board would make the pick very interesting.

We’ve seen a number of mock drafts this week that have put Allen into the number five overall slot to the Broncos, which would obviously be assuming this team brought in a different veteran quarterback to start for a year, maybe two, while Allen developed.

Bringing in Mayfield, I think the Broncos could turn to the rookie almost immediately.

And why wouldn’t they?

There’s no doubt that Mayfield has the guts to go out there and play right away as a rookie in this league, but he also has the arm, accuracy, and playmaking ability.

He’ll make rookie mistakes just like anyone else, but this guy has played so much football, I think he will make much quicker adjustments than other rookie quarterbacks are capable of. He’s seen so much in his nearly 50 collegiate starts.

This is a player that, if the Broncos are unable to land Kirk Cousins in free agency, would really excite me. He might not be 6-foot-7 like other Elway draft picks, but he’s a baller and to me will wind up being one of the best overall players from this draft class.
