Menelik Watson, Offensive Tackle

2018 Cap Hit: $7,177,083
2018 Dead Money (if released): $2,666,667
Cap savings: $4,510,416

Among the Denver Broncos’ roster cuts, this one is both sensible financially and in terms of on-field performance.

Or, lack thereof.

In his first season with the Broncos, Watson was unfortunately inconsistent at right tackle, and was not good at all in pass protection. He also ended the season on injured reserve, and given that injuries played a role in his being available last offseason in the first place, it’s safe to say the Broncos will be letting go of Watson, or re-structuring his deal to save a lot of money against the cap.

The amount of savings is worth the dead money hit, even though the Broncos pride themselves on not carrying much dead weight against the cap.
