Third Round (pick 2/2): Christian Sam, LB, Arizona State

The Broncos need to upgrade their linebacker position, and with the first major defensive move of this mock offseason, I’m going to take a look at Arizona State’s Christian Sam.

Sam had a breakout season in 2015 with the Sun Devils, racking up 98 total tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss with three sacks. He missed the majority of the 2016 season after an illegal chop block, and came back in 2017 looking like he hadn’t skipped a beat.

He posted 127 total tackles with 9.5 tackles for loss and another three sacks this past season, showing off his range and ability to play in the mud.

If the Broncos lose Todd Davis to free agency, they are going to want a linebacker that can do a little bit of everything, but one of Davis’ strengths is playing the run. Sam has the size to do some of the dirty work at inside linebacker.
