Denver’s Chances of Landing Kirk Cousins Increases
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos’ chances of landing Kirk Cousins in free agency just increased by a boat load after reports indicate that Alex Smith will go to D.C.
Let the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes begin. Will the Denver Broncos be in the running for a big time free agent coming out of the Nation’s Capital? The next few weeks will get interesting.
According to Terez A. Paylor from The Kansas City Star, the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins have agreed to a trade that will send Alex Smith to the Nation’s Capital. According to Paylor, this move will save the Chiefs $17 million dollars.
What does this have to do with the Denver Broncos? Well, a minor note is that it means no more Alex Smith in Kansas City and the Patrick Mahomes II era begins. But more importantly, this move most likely indicates that Kirk Cousins will not return in 2018. It appears that free agency is in the cards for Kirk Cousins.
There is no question that the Denver Broncos will be one of the teams in the running for the sought after quarterback. The team is in need of a quarterback to help turn the franchise around. After all, Denver is only two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance.
If the Broncos were to land Cousins, this could change the whole offseason plans for the team. Just a few days ago, they got to see Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen in action. Both quarterbacks could be well out of the picture if this move does happen.

If Kirk Cousins becomes a free agent, then John Elway has possible options on working out a deal. One that will benefit both parties. Elway’s mastery in free agency could be depended upon once again.
The 2018 offseason just got interesting for the Denver Broncos. One more option is now on the table.
