The Denver Broncos are set to go ‘all in’ on a veteran quarterback despite having a chance at a QB with their top five draft pick…

Despite having had the opportunity to coach Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen in the 2018 Senior Bowl, the Denver Broncos are apparently not abandoning the opportunity to go after someone in free agency.

According to Mike Klis, all signs are pointing to an all-out blitz for Kirk Cousins in free agency, which has been reported now for weeks.

Here’s his report on Orange & Blue 760:

Klis said in that radio appearance that he thinks even after watching these players at the Senior Bowl, having had the chance to spend significant time with these guys, that the Broncos have fortified their need to go after a free agent first.

Specifically, Klis mentioned Case Keenum and Kirk Cousins, or consolation prizes like Tyrod Taylor and Sam Bradford.

He said he thinks the Broncos would like to get their QB in free agency, and use the fifth overall pick on a ‘position player’ and that the fifth selection in particular is a bit too rich for either Mayfield or Josh Allen, whom the Broncos both ‘like’ according to Klis.

The reasoning for the Broncos going after a quarterback in free agency, according to Klis, is as simple as being able to upgrade at two positions instead of one. You go out and get your quarterback in Kirk Cousins, and then you draft a special talent like Saquon Barkley or Bradley Chubb, and upgrade two areas of the team.

That does make sense, but what will the Broncos have to sacrifice to make it happen? Well, they may have to trade or release some significant players on this team, starting with possibly Aqib Talib.

There are some other, much less painful, moves the Broncos can make, but some tough decisions like that will come to the forefront.

If the Broncos are able to somehow land players like Cousins and Barkley, however, those tough decisions could quickly be forgottenn.
