Denver Broncos: CSU Ram Michael Gallup is Second Round Option
If there’s a change at wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, turning to a local college prospect in Michael Gallup might be an option in the early rounds…
Rumors are percolating about Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas’ place on the Denver Broncos’ roster. There will certainly be changes coming to the offense and defense due to a losing season. That’s just how it works. A possible replacement at the number two receiver position is down I-25 heading up to Fort Collins.
Colorado State University wide receiver Michael Gallup is not the tallest wide receiver by NFL standards. As a true possession weapon and not afraid to catch the ball at its highest point, Gallup shows tremendous hands and strength. An underrated trait of Gallup happens to be running after the catch.
Furthermore, route running is a strength of Gallup’s. He may not be the best wide receiver in the NFL Draft, but he does everything well it seems. That’s serves him well at the next level.

Seattle Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin, for example, might be the best comparison for Michael Gallup. At 5-11, Baldwin does everything right. The elusiveness could be a drastic difference between the two, but Gallup works on all phases equally well.
Also, with the uncertainty surrounding Cody Latimer, the Denver Broncos might transition Gallup initially into their third wide receiver. At the very least Gallup would be a reliable option there. Yet, ultimately, Gallup seems like a true number two.
It’s important to realize, Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins was the last prominent wide receiver to come from Colorado State. Higgins stretches the field vertically unlike Gallup. Both will have solid careers in the NFL.
For the Denver Broncos’ sake, Gallup should be considered as a day two pick. If it is either the second round or third round, Broncos need to consider galloping to the finish line and draft this guy.
